Gladius The Show
Gladius is an acrobatic equestrian performance company created by Erik Martonovich and Alethea Shelton, creators of Big Horse Productions performance troupe and original cast members of the international touring phenomenon Cavalia. What began as two artists pushing the boundaries of vaulting has grown into a powerful, independent production blending Roman riding, aerial arts, fire, and theatrical storytelling- all rooted in the authentic partnership between horse and human.
In the early years of building Gladius, Lisa Varmbo Martonovich joined the company, becoming an essential creative and operational force in shaping its direction and future. Alongside Erik and Alethea, and with longtime partners and trainers Nicole Czyzewski and Alina Stasik, a dedicated core team was formed: a group who have spent decades living, training, and creating together with these horses.
Today, Gladius is based at Gladius Ranch in Las Vegas, where the team lives and works year-round. The ranch serves as their creative headquarters, training ground, and sanctuary – a place where horses are developed with patience, respect, and lifelong commitment.
Over the years, Gladius has headlined major events, created original full-length productions, and earned a reputation for raw, intimate performances that bring audiences closer to the horses than traditional arena shows ever could.
Driven by their deep commitment to the animals, the team also founded BHP Events, a nonprofit organization dedicated to equine education, rescue, and community outreach. Through this work, they provide lifelong care for their horses and create opportunities for connection, healing, and learning.
Gladius is more than a show. It is a way of life – built by a small, fiercely dedicated team and their horses through decades of risk, creativity, and belief in what is possible. From their ranch in Las Vegas, they continue to perform, teach, and share this rare partnership while working toward their vision of a permanent home for Gladius.
